Each image tells a unique story from around the globe. With so many signifi-cant moments passing by before we ever quite see the real thing, this is the very essence of our day.
**1. South African Protests**
In Johannesburg, thousands gathered to protest high living costs. The colourful banners and often-amusing chants underscored growing resentment at their financial lot despite this, however, the whole thing was conducted quite peacefully, with demonstrators demanding that governments take immediate action.
**2. Tokyo Olympics Preparation**
Tokyo was vibrant as athletes and officials stepped lively around the city in anticipation of tomorrow's Olympics.-The colourful decorating on Olympic venues all over town only served to whet peoples' appetites for what is promising to be a unique global event.
**3. Flooding in New York**
Heavy rain poured off roofs and overflowed gutters in New York city as floods covered entire districts of the city. The city was at a standstill. People had waist-deep water in some places, but managed with good humour and determination to get through heavy-duty emergency services rescued them even while they feared further havoc from weather.
**4. Art Exhibition in Paris**
In Paris, the Louvre Museum recently unveiled an oriental-looking contemporary art exhibition. Getting the installation together and livening it up with new pieces by hot young artists from around the world drew stylish crowds of art enthusiasts. These works were as varied as life itself: Some whole rooms with nothing but headstones, others made entirely out of electronic light either all this variety in turn so many museum visitors were engrossed by them that discussions went on into the night.
**5. Environmental Activism in Nairobi**
In Nairobi, activists put on a large display calling for more forceful measures to take care of our environment. The visual effects made quite an impression and any speeches were kept short to avoid interfering with what needs immediate action. This gathering, accomplished by a variety of local and international groups, intimately showed how universal is the peoples' commitment to battle climate change.
**6. Space Mission Launch**
The final image of the day shows US forces launching a space mission from Cape Canaveral. The rocket, carrying a new satellite to observe earth changes in real time, left its trail of white vapor and fire high in the sky. This mission is important for both the technology of space and the monitoring of our environment.
These images give us a glimpse into the ever-changing face of our world, and remind us of all the stories to be told.
